We’re delighted to announce that Ray Rickman, will present “How to Talk About Slavery” drawing on knowledge of both Rhode Island and African American history and culture to highlight the effect slavery had – and continues to have – in our state.  He will also explain the economic bases of slavery, its African origins, the relation of Rhode Islanders to the slave trade and the economic effects of slavery in the state.

Mr. Rickman is the Executive Director of Stages of Freedom, an organization that promotes black culture for the entire community.  He is a former executive director of the Providence Human Relations Commission, was the EEO officer for both Lifespan and the city of Providence and a former President of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU).
