Parenting the Exceptional Child: Gifted, Neurodivergent or Both
November 15
Time 6:00 am – 7:30 pm
Rochambeau Library
Are you wondering if your child is gifted? Does your child also show signs of possible neurodiversity? This talk will focus on helping to answer these questions. Characteristics of giftedness in both young and older children, and how those characteristics can interplay with ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder (the twice exceptional child) will be discussed. Some suggestions will also be made on dealing with common issues particular to gifted and 2e children.
Deirdre V. Lovecky, Ph.D. is a clinical child psychologist with 30+ years of experience in identifying and helping gifted and 2e children and their families at the Gifted Resource Center of New England. Dr. Lovecky has written many articles on gifted and 2e children, participated in research, and recently published the Second Edition of her book: Different Minds: Gifted Children with ADHD, ASD, and Other Dual Exceptionalities.
Children 8+ can make a craft in the Children’s Room while parents attend the program.
